FF Robert DeAlto Completes Senior Internship at KFD
By Chief of Department Dean Pappas
June 13, 2017
Robert DeAlto, an active KFD firefighter and John Jay High School Senior, recently completed his Senior Internship Requirement at Katonah Fire Department. During his two-month internship, Robert was given a variety of firematic related tasks designed to increase his firefighting knowledge, along with becoming more familiar with Katonah Fire Department Operations. Some of Robert's internship tasks included computerizing an inventory of all active members' turnout gear and entering it into our database, spending a day at Westchester Department of Emergency Services observing training and 60 Control Dispatch operations, going for a ride along with Town of Bedford Fire Inspector Mike Repp Jr., practicing apparatus driving and pumping techniques, organizing equipment closets at headquarters, attending Fire District and Fire Department Committee meetings, checking apparatus and equipment, and, of course, responding to fire calls. Robert is the first Katonah Fire Department senior intern but we hope he's not the last. He pioneered a successful program that we'll look at and refine for future high school seniors who are interested in learning more about Katonah Fire Department. Congratulations, Robert, for completing a tough assignment!
