At approximately 10 pm Monday night, Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a reported chimney fire on Mustato Road. Beford Police already on scene reported fire through the roof of the structure, prompting Car 2211 to put a 10-75 mutual dispatch on stand by. Upon arriving on scene and sizing up the situation, Car 2211 reported smoke showing from the roof of the structure, and furthermore, reported that, according to the occupants, a dog was still inside the house. The 10-75 dispatch was transmitted, bringing in neighboring fire departments from Bedford Hills, Golden's Bridge, Mount Kisco, and the Battalion 13 Deputy Coordinator. Engine 115 arrived on scene, followed closely by Ladder 39. Interior crews, supported by mutual aid firefighters, made an aggressive interior attack on the first and second floors of the structure, as well as the attic, and kept the fire confined to the first floor fire place, chimney flue area, the roof adjacent to the chimney, and a room containing the chimney pipe. The dog was rescued and turned over to its owners, who had evacuated the house upon initially calling 911. Concurrent with this fire, a carbon monoxide alarm was transmitted from a house on Beaver Dam Road. Golden's Bridge Fire Department, standing by for Katonah at its firehouse, responded to that call and discovered 50 ppm carbon monoxide in the structure, that was due to a generator being run near the garage that was emitting carbon monoxide into the house. Fortunately, the occupants did not report CO symptoms. The 10 pm fire capped a busy day for Katonah FD. The day started with a report of a power line down on Beaver Dam Road, closely followed by a mutual aid call for Ladder 39 to Somers for a structure fire. While standing by in Somers, L39 (along with Rescue 17) responded to a serious MVA on Route 35, assisting with an extrication. Upon returning to KFD's district, the department was dispatched to a generator fire on Wakan Drive in the early evening, prior to the Mustato Road fire.
