Katonah Fire Department wishes to thank St. Mary's Church for donating a car to us that allowed us to provide some great training for some of our newer members. We set the car on fire and then practiced extinguishing it and overhauling it. We also lit some wood pallets on fire so our newest members--Tom Megna, Jr. and Ryan Hayes--could experience using a charged hose line as part of their preparation for eventual enrollment in a Firefighter 1, 2 and Survival Training Course. As the attached photos and videos show, car fires can pose many different dangers, and usually, in addition to water, require the use of foam to extinguish. Donated cars provide the donors with a tax break and more importantly, provide a real prop for firefighters to conduct realistic training. Send a request to info@katonafd.org if you have a car you would like to donate.
