A two-vehicle accident on I-684 South near Exit 6 tied up traffic on Thanksgiving afternoon. At around 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon, a report of an accident somewhere between mile markers 13 and 17 was received. Initially, Bedford Hills Fire Department responded with Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps, as much of the area where the accident was reported is in Bedford Hills' district. When the accident was located at mile marker 17.9, Katonah Fire Department was then dispatched. Rescue 17, Engine 115, Utility 8 and Cars 2211 and 2212 joined Bedford Hills Car 2032, Engine 199 and Rescue 10. At the scene, crews from both fire departments extricated an occupant from one badly damaged vehicle, and assisted the occupants in the second vehicle. I-684 south was temporarily shut down and traffic was routed up the Exit 6 ramp so that fire and EMS crews could operate safely. One driver was taken to Westchester Medical Center while the occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Northern Westchester Hospital. Fire and EMS personnel were operating at the scene for close to an hour. 684 was reopened at around 4 p.m.
