On Friday evening at about 5 p.m., Katonah FD's Ladder 39, along with Yorktown FD's Engine 270, were placed on stand by in Somers FD's Lincolndale Headquarters while that department fought a structure fire in the Heritage Hills development. During the stand by, L39 and E270 responded to an MVA on Mahopac Avenue and, later on, both units responded to a report of smoke in the structure at the Valerio gas station convenience store on Route 6. The photos show L39 positioned in front of the convenience store while crews from both Katonah and Yorktown searched for the cause of the smoke. It turns out that a heating system malfunction was the most likely cause of the smoke condition in the store. The unit was shut down and the manager of the store was asked to call an HVAC company to check out the system. Katonah and Yorktown units covered Somers' district for approximately three hours.
