Things were a little busy on Katonah Avenue when Katonah Fire Department was dispatched around 11 a.m. to an odor of gas inside Katonah Pharmacy and other businesses in the 202 Katonah Avenue complex. FD crews arrived on scene in Engine 115 and Ladder 39 and the building was evacuated by Bedford Police. An extensive investigation was done, and as a precaution, Con Ed was called to the scene. It was confirmed that there is no Con Ed gas service to that building, so a gas leak was ruled out. Further investigation indicated that sewer gas from the building's septic system was the most likely cause of the odor. Con Ed did conduct additional investigations along the opposite side of Katonah Avenue just to make sure there was no problem with the gas system. The scene was cleared around 12:30 p.m. and occupants were allowed to return to the building.
