Fire Horn Back in Service!

By Chief of Department Dean W. Pappas
February 24, 2018

You may have noticed that things are a bit quiet around Katonah lately. That's because our trusty fire horn, that's used to announce when Katonah FD has an alarm, has been out of service for several weeks. It is now back in service. Located at Katonah Memorial Park near the shelter off Wildwood Road, the horn is one of several means of notifying both residents and volunteers that the fire department has been dispatched. For residents, when you hear the horn sound three times, it lets you know that an alarm has come in and apparatus will soon be driving on area roads with lights and sirens heading to an emergency. For members, it backs up pagers, cell phone text messages and cell phone responder apps. Because cell phone service can be iffy in the area, the horn is a reliable backup notification. In addition to sounding for alarms, the horn blows once at noon Monday through Saturday (not on Sunday).
