Please Observe "Road Closed" Signs!

As this area recovers from the recent storm, you'll notice that various roads are closed, either with wooden barriers, metal "road closed" signs, traffic cones, and/or bright yellow scene tape. The reason these barriers are put up is because utility poles have been damaged or have fallen, trees have brought down high voltage lines that are still charged, or any combination of hazards that will put pedestrians and motorists in danger. PLEASE do not remove or push these barriers to one side to get through. Several of the calls KFD responded to were for rescues, where individuals found themselves in proximity to, or in between downed and charged power lines that had previously been blocked and taped off. While the outcomes were all positive, please realize that it will take a while for utility crews to get out, survey the damage, kill power to downed lines and effect repairs. While the various road closures are an inconvenience, they are for your own safety. The barriers will be removed when the areas are safe for motorists and pedestrians. Thank you for being safe! Remember, if you come upon a downed wire or a tree entangled in wires, and there's no sign of barriers or caution tape, please dial 911. Do not go near downed wires as they are still live.
