By Chief of Department Dean W. Pappas
April 1, 2018

Members of Northwood Engine Company No. 2, a fire department based in Hopatcong, NJ, paid a visit to Katonah Fire Department Saturday evening to take a look at, and drive, our newest apparatus--our 4X4 HME Pumper. Northwood is looking to purchase a new fire engine and they wanted to see up close the versatility of Engine 117, which went into service for KFD in January 2017. In addition to having on-demand four wheel drive, the compact pumper carries 500 gallons of water, 1000 feet of five inch hose, 30 gallons of foam, a remote control deck gun, forestry hose, and hard suction. It can operate as a first-due pumper in snowy conditions as well as a source pumper. Northwood Engine Company representatives met with Chief of Department Dean Pappas, Segeant Scott Whalen, who headed the truck committee for Engine 117, Tanker Company Engineer Brian Lehrer, and Rescue Company Lieutenant Mike Lehrer. They spent time asking questions and looking at the various compartments. They also took the engine for a test drive. We're glad you stopped by, Northwood, and we wish you luck in your apparatus search. Stay safe, brothers!
