At about 2:45 today, Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a brush fire near Caramoor Center for the Arts. Engine 117, Tanker 6, Engine 116 and Car 2211 arrived in the area. The location was soon updated to Girdle Ridge Drive, near Caramoor. A large area of organic debris had caught fire when the property owner attempted an open burn, which then turned into a brush fire. Engine 117's crew extended an inch and three-quarter hose line to the sight of the fire, and connected lightweight forestry hose that was then extended to the fire itself. Crews extinguished the blaze and then overhauled the area to prevent a re-kindle. Open burns are not allowed in the Town of Bedford, and with the current warm temperatures and dry conditions, residents are urged to be very careful with any kind of outside fire pit.
