Katonah Fire Department was dispatched late Friday night to an odor of LP gas at an apartment complex on Cedar Road. Cars 2211 and 2212 responded, along with Engine 115 and Ladder 39. Additionally, two KFD members who live in the area responded as well. An extensive search of the complex confirmed the odor of LP gas in several apartments, and, with all residents evacuated and in a safe location, further investigation was carried out and a leak was discovered behind a stove in one of the apartments. With elevated gas readings, firefighters vented the complex until the readings were reduced to zero. The gas was shut off in the apartment and at the source, and the land lord was notified. KBHVAC responded as well, as a child was in the apartment with the leak was located. The child and a parent were taken to Northern Westchester Hospital as a precaution to get checked out. KFD units were on the scene for approximately an hour and a half. The fire department reminds residents not to ignore an odor of gas. If you smell natural or LP gas anywhere in your home or in the area, please notify the fire department. Don't delay.
