American Legion Post 1575 and Katonah Fire Department teamed up for the annual Memorial Day Commemoration Monday morning. The ceremony is one of three that take place in the hamlets of Bedford Village, Katonah, and Bedford Hills. Katonah Fire Department members, led by the Tappan Zee Bridgemen Band, along with Boy and Girl Scout troops and American Legion Post 1575 veterans and Town of Bedford officials, marched from fire headquarters down Katonah Avenue to Parkway, and then assembled at Lawrence Circle for the first part of the ceremony. A wreath was laid at the veterans' memorial there and the Bridgemen played "The Star Spangled Banner", "Taps", and "America the Beautiful". The procession then headed down Bedford Road back to fire headquarters, where KFD Chief Jose Corsino helped to lay a wreath at the fire bell in the front yard. Following the ceremony, ice cream was served in back of the firehouse.
