Katonah firefighters braved the record-breaking heat this afternoon attacking a brush fire that broke out near the shelter at Katonah Memorial Park on Wildwood Road. Town of Bedford workers at the park reported that a 50X50 area of wooded brush had caught fire and was working its way toward the shelter that is located on top of a hill overlooking the park's softball and soccer fields. Car 2211, along with Engine 117 and Tanker 6, responded at about 3:15 p.m. and spent about an hour putting out the fire and dealing with hot spots in the oppressive heat. The fire was contained to its original area, and the shelter was never in danger. Katonah was back in service by 4:30 p.m.
