Katonah Fire Department's state-of-the-art training tower was the scene for a dual-agency Truck Company Operations Drill with Golden's Bridge Fire Department. GBFD and KFD members and apparatus worked together, using the smoked-out training tower to simulate fire on various levels of the structure, including a basement fire. Members also trained on the forcible entry simulator that was placed at the training tower by Westchester County DES for use when county fire training classes are held at KFD's facilities. GBFD Car 2141 was the lead on the drill, coordinating the response with GBFD and KFD apparatus. At one point, a simulated "may day" was broadcast and crews practiced maintaining radio silence while a rapid intervention team went in to rescue a fallen firefighter, represented by a training dummy. Forcible entry, initial attack, search and rescue, fire extinguishment, fire ground communications, laddering the structure, firefighter accountability, and maintaining a steady water supply were among the vital skills practiced in this dual-agency drill. We are glad for this training opportunity with our "northern neighbors" and we look forward to future multi-agency training.
