During Tuesday night's storm, KFD's Ladder 39 was dispatched to Somers around 9:30 p.m. to assist with a working structure fire behind Traditions 118 Restaurant. A house on Anita Drive had caught fire and many northern Westchester County fire agencies were called to assist. Initially, Ladder 39 was to stand by at Somers' Lincolndale Fire Headquarters to cover Somers Fire District. However, while enroute , the Ladder was redirected to the scene and its crew was ordered by Battalion 13 to help fight the fire. Upon arrival in the midst of a pouring rain and thunderstorm, Ladder 39's crew hiked in about a quarter mile to the scene with air packs and tools. At the scene, the Katonah crew entered the burning structure through the front door, advanced a hose line to the second floor, and knocked down the active fire that was at the top of the stairs. A heavy smoke condition, and some items blocking the door and stairway made for a challenging advance. Following that fire attack, Ladder 39's crew assisted other crews with searching the structure, and overhauling and cleaning up the hose. Katonah was on scene for about four hours assisting.
