By Ex Chief Dean W. Pappas
April 7, 2019

At approximately 1230 Sunday, a reported odor of gas at 63 Katonah Avenue brought out a full response from Katonah Fire Department, who requested mutual aid units from Bedford Hills, Bedford Village, Golden's Bridge and Mount Kisco to supplement the manpower available. Crews from first arriving units gained entry to the structure and immediately detected elevated gas levels. Engine 116 and Engine 115 tied into hydrants and Ladder 39 raised its ladder to the third floor of the building to support crews conducting an interior investigation. The building was evacuated and the gas to the building was shut down at the gas meter prior to determining an precise source of the leak. Con Edison technicians arrived on scene and did their own investigation regarding the gas service and possible leaks. Upon finding no further leaks, the property was turned over to the owner and the scene turned over to Con Ed. Katonah units operated for approximately one hour.
