By Chief of Department Dean Pappas
November 20, 2015

At about 6 a.m. the morning of 11/20/15, following a night of storms and power outages, The Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a residential fire alarm on Croton Lake Road. Cars 2211 and 2213 arrived at about the same time, and 2213 went to the house to investigate. Upon entering the house, he reported smoke in the structure, and a few seconds later, confirmed with the family that there was a fire in the basement. A 10-75 alarm was called, bringing in mutual aid from Bedford Hills, Mount Kisco, and Golden's Bridge fire departments. The first two arriving engines pulled up to the scene, with Engine 115 laying close to 1600 feet of five-inch hose up the incredibly long and winding driveway. Interior crews from 115, assisted by Bedford Hills Engine 198, attacked the fire with their engines' initial water supply. This was augmented by an additional 6000 gallons of water from Tanker 6 and BHFD Tanker 5, both of which came up the driveway and tied into the first two engines. Mount Kisco's Engine 104 also arrived on scene to provide manpower , along with their F.A.S.Team. The fire was knocked down quickly with most of the damage confined to the basement. The cause of the fire was an electrical issue and was determined to be accidental. All residents got out safely as working smoke detectors alerted them to the danger. The Katonah Fire Department wishes to extend sincere thanks to the mutual aid companies for their assistance on scene, and to Golden's Bridge Fire Department for covering our district.
