KFD Responds to Early Morning House Fire

January 15, 2016

At just around 7:30am the Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire on Old Deer Park Road. Car 2211 and 2212 were responding shortly after dispatch with Engine 115 responding a couple minutes after dispatch. While enroute 60 Control advised 2211 that the caller stated they had a fire in their house and had no other information. 2211 then put the 1st alarm assignment on stand by in their respective headquarters. Upon arrival of 2211 he had smoke coming from multiple eaves of the building with the homeowner stating the fire was in the back bedroom. 2211 requested that the 1st alarm assignment be moved up to the scene. Since there are no fire hydrants in that area of town the 1st alarm assignment brings mutual aid tankers to the scene along with a FASTeam. Engine 115 arrived behind 2211 and laid a 5" supply line from the bottom of the driveway and then quickly pulled an attack line and entered the house. Bedford Hills FD Tanker 5 arrived on scene and was able to quickly connect to the 5" hose supply line creating a water source for Engine 115. Tanker 6, Tanker 1 and Tanker 2 all arrived shortly after and established an even better water supply. Due to the quick response of KFD and the first due engine crew's actions the fire was quickly extinguished and the damage was contained to the bathroom with some smoke damage into the hallway. As a reminder do not hesitate to dial 911 if you think you may need the fire department in case of an emergency because seconds count.
