Passerby calls in brush fire off Route 35

January 28, 2016

Just before the noon horn KFD was alerted to a residential fire alarm on Goldens Bridge Rd. Engine 115 and 2214 responded to the scene and upon arrival was dispatched to another alarm for a 911 caller reporting smoke in the area of Evergreen Nursery on Route 35. The residential alarm was determined to be set off by workers sanding inside the house. Engine 115 and cars 2211 and 2214 then responded to the outside smoke investigation. Upon arrival of Engine 115 and 2214 they found a column of smoke coming from the rear of the property at Evergreen Nursery. Engine 115 then drove down the private road to the back of the property and found 2 separate large piles of brush on fire. Engine 115's crew immediately pulled a hose line and began to put the larger brush fire out while Engine 116 was requested to the scene with more brush fire equipment to pull the piles apart. There are no hydrants in this part of town so when Tanker 6 arrived on scene it's crew connected to Engine 115 and established a water source and both crews began to put out the fires and pull apart the piles. 2211 arrived on scene and met with a worker at the nursery who responded to the back of the property and assisted with heavy machinery to tear apart the piles. Once the fire was extinguished KFD packed up and the scene was turned over to the nursery.
