Propane-fed Porch Fire Threatens 3-story Old Victorian

April 16, 2016

At around 3:30 on Saturday, Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to an unknown type fire in the rear of a residence. Car 2211 arrived and reported heavy smoke from the rear and dispatched a 10-75 (Confirmed Working Structure Fire). Cars 2212 and 2213 reported to the rear and found a fire on the deck, extending to the side of the house. A propane tank was leaking creating a "blow torch" that was aimed directly at the house. Engine 115, on the road immediately following the 10-75 update, secured a hydrant and stretch an attack line to the rear. Ladder 39 arrived and provided ladders and additional support. BHFD Engine 198 accessed the rear from a seperate driveway and the crew checked the upper floors for any fire. The fire was quickly extinguished with minimal extension into the residence.

Chief Pappas would like to extend his thanks to all Mutual Aid that responded.
