Multi-Agency Tanker Drill Provides Valuable Training

On Monday evening, April 25, tankers and engines from our neighboring fire departments joined us in a multi-agency tanker drill at Harvey School. The scenario was a structure fire in the school's Science building. Upon arriving at the "scene", command reported a working structure fire and asked for tanker and engine support. Because there are no hydrants in the area, 8 mutual aid tanker trucks and 2 mutual aid engines responded along with Katonah's Engine 115, Ladder 39, and Tanker 6. The objective of the drill was to get a sustained supply of water from the tankers to the engines on scene fighting the fire. The first two arriving tankers each dropped a water supply pond, and the other tankers poured their water into these ponds. The water was pumped by Tanker 6 from the ponds up the driveway via a five-inch supply line to Engine 115, which flowed water through two inch-and-three-quarter hose lines and fed Ladder 39. Ladder 39 was operating the ladder pipe master stream. Meanwhile, the two mutual aid engines set up water sources from which the tanker trucks could refill after dumping their loads. One engine set up at a hydrant on Route 22, while another engine drafted from the reservoir bordering Maple Avenue. The drill provided some terrific insights into how to get water to a pretty remote location and maintain a steady water flow to fight fires. Katonah FD wishes to thank the mutual aid fire departments for participating, and to the Harvey School for allowing us to drill on their campus.
