On Monday night, Katonah FD personnel, joined by our neighbors from Golden's Bridge and Chappaqua FD's, used the county's Class A Burn Pod at the County Training Center in Valhalla for some live fire training. Crews alternated on safety line crews, backup line crews, search and rescue crews, and attack crews while county instructors lit several live fires inside the structure to be extinguished. Accountability and fire ground communication techniques were also reviewed, as were may day and building evacuation procedures. This kind of live fire training provides invaluable experience in a supervised setting. KFD wishes to thank the county fire instructors for devoting an evening to helping us improve our skills, and to our neighbors from Golden's Bridge and Chappaqua for participating in the training with us.
