On Monday afternoon at about 4 p.m., Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. Upon arriving at the scene, Car 2211 reported a sedan on its driver's side near the intersection of Route 35 and Holly Branch Road. The driver was trapped in the car in the driver's seat, and was alert and conscious. Rescue 17 arrived on scene, followed closely by Car 2212, Car 2213, and Engine 115. Crews from Rescue 17 and Engine 115 immediately stabilized the vehicle with cribbing and rescue jacks, and then proceeded to cut the roof of the car off in order to remove the victim. The extrication was completed in about 10 minutes, and the victim was taken by Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps. While crews were operating, Engine 117 took up a position at Route 35 and North Salem Road and diverted traffic down North Salem Road to reduce congestion at the scene. KFD members were operating at the scene for a little over an hour.
