KFD's training tower turned into a mask confidence course, with participants blacked out, negotiating through various obstacles by following a stretched hose line. Individuals new to SCBA were escorted by line officers through the course, and given instruction along the way on how to get under, over, and through various barriers. The vast bulk of firefighting work is done in limited- or no-visibility conditions, and being able to build skills while depending only on senses of hearing and touch, and maintaining contact with the hose line, is absolutely essential for both effective firefighting, and life safety. The drill was organized and led by Lt. Brian Cohen.
