This afternoon at about 3:45 p.m., Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at Exit 5 on I-684 South. Engine 116 and Tanker 6 were on the road almost simultaneously. Heavy smoke was visible as the apparatus approached Route 35 from Woods Bridge Road and a working vehicle fire was confirmed. Maneuvering through an already-backed-up interstate, Tanker 6 and Engine 116 approached the scene. Tanker 6 deployed its trash line while Engine 116 deployed its trash line and its inch-and-three-quarter pre-connected line. In addition to the fully involved pickup truck, a small brush fire had also broken out. After about 20 minutes, the vehicle fire and the brush fire were both extinguished. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. I-684 Southbound remained closed for a short time while the fires were extinguished. Katonah units were back in service by 5 p.m.
