KFD Open House a Huge Success

To kick off Fire Prevention Week 2014, Katonah Fire Department held an open house on Sunday, October 5. Those who attended were able to pick up valuable fire safety information, learn about membership opportunities, enjoy cider and donuts, try on firefighting gear, shoot fire extinguishers and fire hoses, and take rides on both current fire engines and our 1928 American LaFrance. A new feature this year was face painting by Eleni Pappas and Hannah Episcopia. All of our apparatus was open for attendees to explore and climb on.

Highlights of the day included the Smoke Simulation Trailer, donated by Eastchester Fire Department, and a live burn demonstration on our concrete training pad. Attendees watched as we lit a small structure on fire, and then demonstrated the correct approach to attacking the fire, extinguishing it, and overhauling it. Attendance at this year's event was the largest in recent history.
