Katonah FD members tried out the department's new spreader, cutter, and ram tools at a drill Monday night, October 6. A donated Honda sedan was used and members tested out the new equipment, removing doors, windows, the windshield, and the roof of the car using the cutter and spreaders (AKA Jaws of Life). The new ram tool was used to push up the car's dashboard. These tools are vital elements of any car accident/rescue operation. With these tools, firefighters can quickly remove victims who may be trapped in their cars. After the car was cut apart, members pushed it into the burn structure that was used during our open house the day before, and set both the car and structure on fire. The drill ended with members practicing fire attack procedures by extinguishing the fire.
