Early Friday morning, at around 0630, Katonah firefighters braved 19 degree temperatures responding to a reported chimney fire on Valley Road. Engine 116, Ladder 39, Engine 115 and Car 2213 responded to the residence. Ladder 39 set up its aerial while Engine 116's crew gained entry to the house and began a search. Using various techniques the fire was extinguished and there was no extension into the home. Crews were operating for about one and a half hours in the extreme cold. Fortunately, there was no fire damage to the home and the scene was turned over to the homeowner. Units were back in service by about 0830. A 911 call by an observant passer by resulted in the quick extinguishment and containment of the fire.
