Tuesday afternoon, at around 5:30 p.m., Katonah Fire Department volunteers were dispatched to an odor of gas both inside and outside of a house on Edgemont Road. Cars 2211, 2212, along with Engine 116, Engine115, and Ladder 39 responded. Crews from Ladder 39 made entry, supported by Engine 116's and Engine 115's crew. Elevated gas readings were found in the house, and Engine 116 tied into a hydrant and hooked up a supply line to Ladder 39. Meanwhile, Ladder 39 deployed a pre-connected hose line as a precaution due to the high gas readings and the possibility of an active gas leak. Con Edison responded to the scene, and after an investigation, discovered a leak in the gas line leading to the house. KFD crews shut down the gas service to the house and the scene was turned over to Con Ed. Fortunately, there were no injuries and the family was able to safely evacuate the house. Crews were operating for about an hour at the scene.
