A procession by the Town of Bedford's Emergency Services Agencies took place Friday, May 22 to kick off a socially-distanced Memorial Day weekend commemoration. Organized by the Katonah American Legion Post 1575, the procession, consisting of representative apparatus from Bedford Police, Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Bedford Hills Fire Department, Bedford Village Fire Department, and Katonah Fire Department, wound its way from the American Legion Post HQ on Jay Street, through the three hamlets, passing by Lawrence Circle, and the hamlet's three firehouses. Ladder 39 was positioned on KFD's front apron with an American flag to honor the procession as it went by. Then on Monday, a socially-distanced memorial service was held at the KFD HQ Fire Bell. Members of the American Legion, with an honor guard, laid a wreath at the bell, accompanied by Chief of Department Jose Corsino. KFD members in full dress uniform lined up six feet apart from one another on the apron, saluting while a three-round volley was fired and "Taps" was played.
