Utility Pole Brought Down at Recycling Center

By Ex Chief Dean W. Pappas
July 31, 2020

At about 11 AM Friday morning, Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to the Westwood Organic Recycling Center on Beaver Dam Road due to a report of a utility pole having been brought down after a vehicle collided with it. Engine 117 and Tanker 6 responded. A NYSEG utility pole carrying electrical service had been broken off of its base and the downed pole and wires were smoking. Fortunately, the pole landed on a pile of dirt, as opposed to one of the piles of mulch at the recycling center. NYSEG was called to the scene and, after shutting down the power, it was determined that there was no risk of a fire. The scene was turned over to NYSEG and Katonah FD units were back in service by about 12:45 PM.

Units: Engine 117, Tanker 6
