Katonah Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon to a gas main reportedly damaged by contractors working on the Katonah sewer project on Valley Road. The dispatch came in at about 3:30 PM for the incident, which was located near St. Mary's School on Valley Road. Engine 116. Ladder 39, Car 2211 and Car 2212 responded. In addition, Car 2211 requested Engine 198 from Bedford Hills Fire Department. Engine 116 arrived on scene, and an inch and three quarter preconnected hose line was stretched and made ready. In addition, Engine 116 also connected to a nearby fire hydrant in order to have a steady supply of water should it be needed. Ladder 39 assisted with traffic control, and Engine 198's crew assisted Engine 116's crew with checking nearby residences for any evidence of a gas leak. Con Ed Gas representatives soon arrived on scene, and, fortunately, the situation was placed under control and turned over to Con Ed. Katonah and Bedford Hills units were back in service by about 4:15 PM. KFD wishes to thank Bedford Hills FD for assisting on this call.
