Wednesday evening at about 6:30 PM, Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with extrication south on the Saw Mill River Parkway south of Exit 42. Engine 115 and Utility 8 responded, along with Cars 2211 and 2212. Upon arrival, firefighters found an accident involving one car and a deer. Fortunately, the extrication part of the accident was removing the deer from the front of the car. The occupants were not seriously injured. The Saw Mill River Parkway was closed southbound for about an hour while KFD, KBHVAC, and county police worked on the scene. The deer was removed, the car was towed, and KFD units were back in service by 7:30 PM. Please use caution driving along wooded highways and roadways, especially at dusk, when deer are prone to suddenly come out of the woods and attempt to cross the road.
