Dry Conditions Spark Brush Fire in Hamlet

It didn't take long for the dry conditions to result in a brush fire on Tuesday morning. At about 11:30 AM Tuesday, Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a reported brush fire against a home on Pine Hill Drive. Car 2213, Engine 116, Tanker 6, and Engine 117 responded, and, upon arrival, discovered a brush fire near the garage of a structure. Car 2213 had Bedford Hills Fire Department's Tanker 5 dispatched to the scene as a precaution to ensure that there would be enough water supply to fight the fire. Engine 116 went into the driveway and its crew attacked the fire with a preconnected hose line. Tanker 6 set up behind Engine 116 and supplied it with water. Meanwhile, personnel from the other arriving units worked for about an hour, hosing down the area, and raking it thoroughly to eliminate any hot spots that could result in a "rekindle" later on. Fortunately there was minimal extension to the garage. We'd like to thank Bedford Hills for helping us out with the brush fire. Please keep in mind that, due to dry conditions, a "no open burn" restriction remains in effect statewide through May 14.
