At about 9:30 Thursday night, Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a reported car fire on the Saw Mill River Parkway South at the Route 117 By-Pass Exit. Car 2213, Engine 115, Tanker 6 and Rescue 17 responded. Engine 115 pulled up on scene to find a fully involved car fire between the parkway and the exit ramp. The car's occupant had gotten out and was uninjured. Using the preconnected hose line in Engine 115's front bumper compartment, the crew attacked the fire, using both water and foam to extinguish the fire that was fed by the car's fuel, that had leaked out and spread over the roadway. Tanker 6 connected a five inch supply line to Engine 115 to maintain a steady supply of water. The fire was soon put out. Due to the runoff of gasoline on the roadway and near the watershed area, the NYC DEP Police were notified and responded. There was no impact to any of the waterways. WCPD contacted a sander to respond as well and the scene was turned over to them.
