Monday's drill enabled firefighters to practice fighting a car fire, using a donated vehicle. Car fires make up a significant portion of our annual call volume, as we cover sections of Interstate 684, Route 35, the Saw Mill River Parkway, and Route 22. As car technology continues to advance, approaches to fighting car fires also need to change. Electric vehicles, new batteries, and magnesium components all present special challenges to firefighters when they respond to a car fire. People who donate vehicles to the fire department may eligible for a tax break. If you are interested in donating a car for us to use, either for vehicle accident training or vehicle fire training, please inquire at info@katonahfd.org.
