At about 4:20 PM Wednesday afternoon, Katonah Firefighters were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on I-684, which also was the fourth call of the day for the volunteers. Initially, the call came in as an accident with injuries. However, upon arrival of car 2212, he located a driver who was unable to exit the vehicle herself. The patient was able to be removed safely shortly afterwards. In addition to Car 2212, Car 2211, along with Rescue 17 and Engine 115, responded to the accident, which occurred in the northbound lanes of the interstate north of the Route 35 overpass. Katonah apparatus and personnel established traffic control and a safe zone while those involved were assessed by police and EMS personnel. Both cars were extensively damaged, along with a significant length of highway guardrail. In addition, fluid spilling from the cars resulted in Speedy Dry absorbent being put down on the roadway surface. Katonah units were operating for about an hour and a half, occupying the left two lanes, and causing traffic to back up for quite a distance. Units were back in service by about 6PM
