Around 4 PM Thursday, Katonah Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a tree limb that had fallen on power lines and was burning. Cars 2211, 2212, and 2213, along with Engine 116 and Utility 8, responded to the scene near Route 35 east of Mount Holly Road. Upon further investigation, the burning tree limb and wires were located deep in the woods off Route 35, along an easement that brings service lines from Route 35 to homes on Mount Holly Road. Command determined that KFD's Engine 117, with 4X4 capability, was best suited to handle the situation. Engine 116 was returned to quarters, and Engine 117 was brought out. The truck, in four-wheel drive mode, went into the woods and was able to get close enough so that a hose line could be stretched and the burning limb extinguished once NYSEG cut off power to the electrical line. After the power was cut and the tree limb was extinguished, a tree company was brought in to remove the limb from the power lines so that repairs could be made. KFD personnel were on scene until about 645 PM.
