An unoccupied house on Lakeside Drive caught fire late Tuesday night. Katonah Fire Department volunteers were dispatched at about 11:30 PM to a reported structure fire, with flames reported going up along one side of the house. Engine 116, Ladder 39, Engine 115, and Cars 2211, 2212, and 2213 all responded. BHFD Car 2033 was in the area and arrived on scene first, confirming the fire. Car 2212 used this information and asked for a first alarm 10-75, which brought in mutual aid fire departments from Bedford Hills, Golden's Bridge, and Mount Kisco, along with Battalion 16 and Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Engine 116 was the first engine on scene. Its crew deployed a preconnected inch and three quarter hose line and gained entry to the structure. The fire was located in a room near the side of the house where flames were first reported. A second line was soon deployed from Engine 116 to assist with fighting the fire. Engine 116's crew was soon joined by Ladder 39's crew and Engine 115's crew, as well as by firefighters from the mutual aid companies. Engine 115 also laid its 5-inch supply line from a nearby hydrant to Engine 116 so that there was a steady, reliable supply of water. Crews were able to knock down the fire fairly quickly, followed by extensive overhaul and an investigation by the Westchester County Cause and Origin Team. Units were on scene until about 2:30 AM Wednesday morning. Katonah Fire Department extends our thanks to the mutual aid fire departments and EMS agencies that assisted at this fire.
