At about 7:30 PM, KFD volunteers were dispatched to a mulch pile fire at the Westwood Organic Recycling Center on Beaver Dam Road. Battling the smoke as well as the intense heat, volunteers worked on the pile, assisted by Westwood Organic Recycling employees who operated their heavy excavators to help spread out the mulch and allow firefighters to get as close to the source of the fire as possible. The deep seated fire was brought under control by about 10 PM. KFD wishes to thank Croton Falls Fire Department and Bedford Hills Fire Department for providing their tankers to assist in the suppression as there is no fire hydrant at the park.
