A Perfect Day for a Fire Department Open House

It was a perfect day for KFD's Open House. Mild temperatures guaranteed a huge turnout, with a large variety of activities to both entertain and inform the public regarding fire safety. Inside the firehouse, attendees could inquire about membership opportunities, get plastic fire hats, cups and other souvenirs, engage in arts and crafts, read books about fire safety, try on turnout gear, and enjoy cider and donuts. Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps brought in a couple of CPR dummies so kids could practice doing chest compressions. Outside, the most popular activity was the fire truck rides. However, the two fire department-themed bouncy castles, being able to shoot a real fire hose, and checking out the incredible amount of equipment on our rescue truck ran a close second. Also present was the NY State Police Rollover Simulator, which very clearly showed what happens when you're in a rollover accident and you're not wearing your seatbelt. The highlight of the day was the burning of a wooden structure in our back yard, with the fire extinguished by a crew riding Engine 115. We really enjoyed opening our firehouse up to the public. Thanks for dropping by!
