With the purchase of new personal bailout escape systems, thanks to a generous grant, KFD volunteers began training with the new system late last week. The personal escape system consists of a coiled rope attached to a hook, and a descender control that enables a firefighter who may be trapped on an upper floor by fire to escape via a window. The qualifying course to use this system consists of a classroom session, followed by the successful completion of nine descents from the third floor of the KFD training tower. Successful completion of the training designates the member as an interior-rated firefighter.
