In yet another example of the value of fire alarm systems, an activated commercial fire alarm at the Pizza Station restaurant on Parkway turned out to be due to fire in the wall of the restaurant. Katonah's Engine 116, Ladder 39, Engine 115, and Car 2211 responded at around 8:45 AM Tuesday morning. Upon discovery of smoke and fire, the alarm was re-transmitted as a working fire. Car 2211 arrived on scene and assumed command, with Car 2033 assuming operations. Mutual aid companies from Mount Kisco & Bedford Hills assisted at the scene and firefighters from Millwood & Goldens Bridge stood by to cover the Katonah fire district for the duration of the alarm. All building occupants were evacuated safely. Firefighters located a small fire in the outside wall of the building and were able to open the wall and extinguish the fire with minimal damage to the building or ground floor pizzeria. A WEMS paramedic and an ambulance from Katonah Bedford Hills Ambulance Corps provided medical coverage for the duration of the incident. An investigation into the cause of the fire was inconclusive. We are grateful for the assistance received from all parties and happy to report the restaurant was able to open for lunch.
