Frigid Temps Equals Busy Day for KFD

As temperatures plummeted on Friday, February 3, call volume rose for Katonah Fire Department's Volunteers. Members who gathered at noon at the firehouse for a luncheon cooked by member Tom Connolly, were dispatched mutual aid to a brush fire in South Salem, caused by power lines downed by increasingly high winds. As Tanker 6 rolled to that call, a second call came in, for a large tree that fell across Westview Drive, bringing down primary electric wires in that neighborhood. After dealing with those two incidents, about an hour later, volunteers were dispatched to a commercial fire alarm at the Caramoor Center for the Arts, which fortunately turned out to be caused by workers on the premises. Less then an hour later, a call came in for a carbon monoxide alarm activation on Westview Drive, where elevated readings caused by a backup generator required firefighters to clear the home of carbon monoxide by way of ventilation. Finally, at 11:30 that night, volunteers responded to an odor of gas call at a residence on Lakeside Drive, which turned out to be unfounded.
