It’s preventable!

This evening KFD volunteers along with volunteers from Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps handled a multi vehicle accident with multiple injured parties on I-684 in the area of the SMRP. It’s reported that a New York State Department of Transportation H.E.L.P. truck was stationary on the shoulder assisting a disabled van when another vehicle struck the HELP truck and the disabled vehicle. 4 patients were transported to various hospitals with apparent non-life threatening injuries.

This is a reminder of NYS Move Over Law which requires motorists to use due care when approaching stopped emergency or hazard vehicle with warning lights activated. The law also says if it’s a multi lane roadway you must move from the lane immediately adjacent to the emergency vehicle. If you cannot move over due to traffic or other factors you must reduce your speed
