Pickup Truck vs. Snow Plow on I-684

March 6, 2015

At approximately 6:21 a.m. on March 6, Katonah Fire was dispatched to a report of a pickup truck having crashed into the rear of a NY State DOT snow plow in the passing lane of Interstate 684 North at the Route 35 on-ramp. Upon arrival, Car 2212 confirmed the accident, and as the pickup truck was still emitting smoke, requested that Engine 115 be first due to the accident as a precaution. Working in 9 degree weather, Katonah units assisted with traffic control and scene safety while the pickup truck was pulled from the back of the snow plow using a front-end loader. Following that, DOT mechanics were able to move the snow plow to the side of the highway, allowing state police to reopen the northbound lanes. There were heavy traffic delays both northbound and southbound from motorists slowing down to view the accident. Katonah units were on scene until about 7:15 a.m. The driver of the pickup truck was checked out by Katonah-Bedford Hills Ambulance Corps and 45 Medics. The snow plow operator was uninjured.
