KFD volunteers were dispatched 2:45 Monday afternoon to The Terrace after a gas main was accidentally struck by workers installing sewers. Engine 116, Engine 115, Utility 8, Car 2213 and Car 2212 responded, along with an engine from Bedford Hills Fire Department. Upon arrival, Engine 116 stretched a charged hand line and Engine 115 tied into a hydrant to provide extra water, if needed. Meanwhile, KFD and Bedford Hills crews checked residences along The Terrace for elevated gas readings, and The Terrace and Ashby Place were shut down to car and pedestrian traffic while the situation was rectified. Fortunately, no elevated gas readings were detected. Con Ed soon arrived on scene and crews were able to secure the gas line and stop the leak. Fire units remained on scene until about 4:20 PM.
