Every Katonah Firefighter is required to be trained in use of a personal escape system that enables him or her to quickly get out of a structure if conditions inside deteriorate. The escape system consists of a belt harness and webbing that allows the firefighter to "bail out" of an upper story window and safety descend to the ground. On Saturday, May 2, 10 firefighters were either certified or re-certified on the system, using the KFD training tower to go through their escape evolutions.
