Westchester County DES is running a Firefighter Training Course at KFD, which is a county Satellite Training Center. Tonight, the candidates were given an overview of Tanker Operations using KFD's Tanker 6. The candidates learned about the equipment and tools carried on our 3,500-gallon capacity Tanker, and then set up the 3000-gallon water pond and simulated a fire operation that depends on water drawn from the pond. Tankers are vital in Katonah's fire district and in many other northern Westchester County fire districts, as fire hydrants are only available in downtown and residential areas. In many parts of the northern county, we depend on lakes and other natural water sources, augmented by the water carried in Tanker trucks. So learning how to smoothly run a Tanker operation is an essential part of the candidates' training.
