Vehicle Extrication Practice Focus of Monday Night's Drill
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Ex Chief Dean W. Pappas
October 12, 2020

Monday night's weekly drill focused on victim extrication from a vehicle. Participants used rescue jacks to stabilize a car that had been positioned on its side, as if involved in a partial rollover accident. The bright yellow rescue jacks keep the car stabilized, enabling crews to use their other rescue tools, like the portable cutter and spreaders, to remove the car's roof, thus gaining access to any entrapped victims. Vehicle stabilization, scene safety, and effective and safe use of the rescue tools were some of the main skills covered in the drill. Many of KFD's newer probationary members received extensive hands-on training during tonight's evolution, that was led by KFD Line Officers. Cars that are used in our training are donated by members or fire district residents. If you have an old vehicle that you would like to donate to KFD for training purposes, send an inquiry to info@katonafd.org. If your vehicle is donated, you will receive a letter from the fire department verifying the donation, and you may use it for tax purposes.
